Aden-een Halloween event to delight crowds
With only a few days to go before the biggest community event in the Buchan calendar, the Modo crew is ready to descend upon Aden Country Park to begin the transformation that will turn the woodland into a mystical, magical world for one night only.
A huge amount of planning and hard work is involved backstage in order for the event to be both spectacular and safe.
On the afternoon of the event, 300 young people from Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Mintlaw will arrive by bus at the same time. The other groups will all meet in the Poly Tunnels (the dressing rooms). In the hour that follows their arrival the Modo team and volunteers will help them into costume, pasint faces, distribute the props and have everyone in groups ready to be led into the woods in position by 6.15pm.
Taking part this year are groups from Fraserburgh, Mintlaw and Peterhead Academy, as well as performances from Lawrence Dance Academy, Mutiny Tribal Belly Dancers, Prince’s Trust, Serena Wilson School of Highland Dance, Aberdeen Fire Spinners and AUSA Circus Society. There will also be over 100 performers from CircoModo Fraserburgh, Mintlaw and Peterhead. Music in the courtyard will be provided by Guarana Street Band and TNT Youth Street Band.
There are some important changes to the event this year so please try to make yourselves aware of them before the event. The changes will be clearly signposted for public safety and enjoyment.
Traffic and Parking
Aden-een is expected to be extremely busy this year so please leave plenty of time to get parked if you want to be there for the 6.30pm start. Parking will be managed by Landscape Services and Grampian Event Security Ltd. There will be a Police presence at the main entrance to the park to enable the smooth flow of traffic. There will be temporary traffic restrictions on Newlands Road (from Station Road to the Doctor’s Surgery) and Station Road (from the roundabout at the Square to Fetterangus Road). Waiting restrictions are in place from 12 noon to 10pm on Friday 30th October 2015.
The Old Deer Entrance
Those who enter from Old Deer this year please note that unless you are in the park by 6.15pm you will have to stay at the entrance to the Arboretum and will not be able to go over the bridge and up to the Mansion House area. This measure is for crowd safety. The one-way system will take you on the walk through the Arboretum and Security Stewards and Volunteer Marshalls will be in attendance to direct you.
The Courtyard will be the first place you come to once you have parked and walked down to the event.
In the Courtyard the Guarana Street Band and TNT Youth Street Band will alternate musical performances throughout the evening and there will be a wide selection of catering. Friends of Aden will be offering tea, coffee, hot chocolate, crisps and biscuits. The Aden Craft and Gift Shop will be open for the evening.
The Café at Aden will be open on the evening serving wholesome warming meals with specials including soups and beef stovies as well as the usual delicious coffees, teas and cakes.
The ice-cream kiosk will also be open on the night serving coffees, hot chocolates and some Halloween bakes.
There will also be a catering van on the walk down from the car parks to the Courtyard for those in a hurry to eat.
There will be two walks to choose from in different directions with queues forming at the side of the Mansion House. Both walks will open at 6.30pm and close for 7.30pm and will re-open after the Fireworks at 8.00pm until 9.00pm. This allows everyone the chance to enjoy both walks.
This path will take you over the bridge, across the river and down to the Arboretum where there will be several groups performing in the woods. At the far side of the Arboretum, the walk will take you over the small bridge and up the hill back on to the main path. From there you will be directed either back to the Courtyard for the food and entertainment or back to the Mansion House. We must stress that there is NO RETURN for those who go over the bridge and the walk is one-way only. Those who choose to take this route should be aware of the consequences of walking up a fairly steep path and be sure they are able to do so.
This walk will take you from the queue at the Mansion House down the path, through the woods and back up to the main path leading to the Courtyard or down the small path and back to the Fireworks Viewing Area. The paths will be clearly signposted and Stewards will be on duty at all points.
The Fireworks will begin at 7.45pm. In order for people to get to the viewing area in front of the Mansion House, both Walks will close at 7.30pm and open again after the Fireworks at 8.00pm.
The Fireworks Exclusion Zone will be clearly mapped and monitored by security. It is absolutely essential that the audience cooperates with safety measures.
Dragonfire will once again thrill the crowds with their spectacular display against the atmospheric backdrop of the Mansion House.
The Scottish Ambulance Service crew will be in attendance along with 8 British Red Cross First Aiders who will be on duty throughout the park. SIA Stewards and Volunteer Marshalls will be on hand for anyone who needs information or support.
Modo staff will be recognisable by their black Modo Jackets and Silver Hard Hats. In an emergency please feel free to approach a crew member. There is radio contact throughout the park.
These are valued volunteers who give up their time to come along to help the event run as smoothly as possible. They are there to direct the public, give out free programmes/maps, assist Event Security and accept donations. They will all be wearing yellow hi-viz Modo vests and will be easily recognisable.
Members of local camera clubs will be taking photographs throughout the evening and will be identifiable by their orange hi-viz vests and jackets. They will be there to capture the atmosphere of the evening and as always produce some great shots.
Modo is committed to keeping this event free of charge so it can be enjoyed by the whole community. Please help by donating what you can to ensure the event continues for years to come. We continue to receive huge support from Shell and others, without which this even would not be possible, but as the audience grows and the number of young people increases, so does the cost of creating the event. There will be an opportunity at the entrances and exits to put donations into buckets. The recommended donation is £2.00.
